Which size fits your horse?

Which size fits your horse?

Every bonnet is made to order in three sizes — Pony, Cob and Full. Height is a decent guide, but heads don't always match bodies, so the browband measurement is the one to trust. Take a piece of baling twine from one ear to the other across the forehead and compare it to the chart. Crochet has natural give, so if you're between two sizes either will usually sit fine. Still not sure? Message me your measurement and I'll tell you which to order.

    FAQ

Pony suits horses under about 14.2hh, Cob fits 14.2 to 16hh and most chunky-headed natives, and Full fits 16hh and up. If your horse sits between two sizes, measure the browband from ear to ear across the forehead — Pony is around 35cm, Cob 39cm and Full 42cm. Crochet has natural give, so there's a bit of room either way. Still unsure? Message me and I'll help you work it out.

Yes, every one. I crochet each bonnet myself, one at a time, at my kitchen table. Nothing is machine-made and nothing is pre-stocked — your bonnet gets started once you order it.

Soft cotton yarn, chosen because it's breathable, gentle against the ears and holds its shape. The antlers, pom-poms and trims are crocheted or stitched on by hand, not glued.

Yes. It sits like any ear bonnet, under the bridle with the browband threaded through, and the ear tubes muffle sound the same way a normal fly veil does. It's made for wearing, not just for photos.

Hand wash in cool water with a little wool detergent, squeeze rather than wring, and lay it flat to dry. Don't tumble dry it and don't put it in the machine — cotton crochet will stretch out of shape.

    Nice detail

The little gold cord edging is what sells it. Small thing but it makes the whole bonnet look finished.

    Lovely seller

Messaged with a question about sizing before ordering and got a really helpful reply the same day. Bonnet arrived quickly and is exactly as described.

    Bought all four

Couldn't decide so I got the full set. Reindeer and Snowman are my favourites but they're all lovely. Will be using them for years.

Wow thank you - enjoy them all! - Rosie

    Washed well

Hand washed it after a muddy day and it came up like new. No stretching or bobbling, colours didn't run.

Everyone at the yard wants one

Three people at my yard have ordered since seeing mine. The Santa one especially gets a reaction.

    Pony sized fits perfectly

Ordered the pony size for our 13hh and it fits spot on. Ears sit comfortably.

    Well worth it

You can feel the difference from a machine made one straight away. Denser crochet, neater edges, no loose ends anywhere.

    Christmas photos sorted

Used it for our annual Christmas card photo with the horses and it made the shot. The red really pops against a bay coat.

    Cute but colour slightly different

Lovely bonnet and well made. The green is a touch darker than it looked on my screen. Still happy with it, just worth mentioning.

    Soft on the ears

My mare is fussy about her ears and normally shakes her head at anything near them. She was completely fine with this one, the yarn is really soft.

    Second one ordered

Bought the Reindeer first and liked it enough that I've come back for the Holly & Berry.

    Stays put

Doesn't slip back like the cheap ones I've had before. Rode a whole lesson in it including some canter work and it hadn't moved at all.

    Good but took a while

Bonnet itself is lovely, no complaints on quality. Shipping took a bit longer than I expected so order early if you need it for a specific date.

Thanks for the honest feedback - these are all made to order so I've updated the dispatch times on the listing. - Rosie

    Snowman is the best one

Ordered the Snowman after seeing it on Instagram. The little top hat is stitched on solidly and the striped scarf hangs down one side which looks great in photos. Really pleased.

    Great gift

Got this for my daughter's pony for Christmas. Arrived well packaged and she was thrilled.

    Christmas parade sorted

Bought the Santa one for our club's Christmas ride and got stopped about six times asking where it was from. The white brim is really soft and the pom pom sits off to one side exactly like the pictures. Washed it after and it kept its shape.

Thank you so much - so glad it got a good reception at the ride! - Rosie

    Perfect fit

Fits my 16.2 warmblood beautifully. Ear tubes are the right length so nothing folds over.

    Lovely quality

Really well made. Slightly snugger than my usual bonnet but it settled after a wear or two. Would size up if your horse is between sizes.

My gelding looks ridiculous and I love it

The Reindeer one is so funny. Antlers stand up properly and don't flop, which I was worried about. Red pom pom on the browband is a nice touch.

    Better than the photos

Ordered the Holly & Berry for my mare and it's even nicer in person. The gold cord catches the light and the berries are proper firm little bobbles, not floppy. Stitching is tight and even the whole way round. You can tell it's actually handmade.
